Nightguards

The detrimental habits of clenching and grinding (a condition called "bruxism") are quite common and often occur when one is sleeping.  If gone untreated, bruxism can lead to severe tooth wear, broken teeth, and even irreversible cracks.  A nightguard is a great way to protect your teeth, and existing dental work, from further wear and damage.  It is made from a sleek and durable material that is custom fabricated to cover either the top or bottom dental arch, preventing contact with the opposing teeth.  â€‹

Whitening

Whitening your teeth is an easy and non-invasive way to change the color of your natural tooth enamel and brighten your smile.  Our office will make a custom fabricated whitening tray that holds a professional grade whitening agent and fits perfectly over your teeth.  Unlike whitening strips that you can find over-the-counter, professional whitening trays cover all of your teeth.  They are worn in the comfort of your own home and will brighten your smile over the period of two weeks, though some may notice a brighter smile in as little as three to five days.

Treatment of Tooth Sensitivity

There are multiple causes of tooth sensitivity.  For teeth that are healthy but have persistent sensitivity, the most common cause is from recession of the gums.  As the collar of gum around your tooth recedes (either due to gum disease, local irritations, or with age) your tooth's root becomes exposed. A tooth's root surface does not have a natural insulation of enamel and as a result, tiny exposed nerve endings immediately feel the elements of hot, cold and sweet foods that you consume.

Some treatments include switching to a "sensitive" toothpaste, applying concentrated fluoride varnishes, desensitizing agents, or even bonding materials to the exposed surfaces of teeth.  Always remember that tooth sensitivity may be an early warning sign of other dental problems, and the sooner they are addressed, the better off you'll be!
